Workshop Title: Found Poetry Artist Trading Cards (ATCs)

Description: Found Poetry Artist Trading Cards (ATCs) are the artistic blending of ATCs and the random expression of found poetry. When combined, these two art forms result in funny, imaginative, and quirky ATCs.

In this class, the creative fun begins by cutting random words from the pages of a magazine that we’ll rearrange into amusing phrases & sentences. Once the words are arranged, we’ll create polymer clay “paper” using thin layers of liquid clay applied to ceramic tiles. In between each layer of liquid clay, you’ll apply your selected phrases, add images with rubber stamps, and add color with alcohol inks. After the final layer of liquid clay is cured, we have the “big reveal” as we carefully remove the polymer clay “paper” from the ceramic tile. We’ll then attach the polymer clay “paper” to watercolor paper and add additional embellishments for a truly inspired ATC. At the end of class, we’ll swap ATCs with others in the class.

Student Supply List: Magazine pages with text, alcohol inks (Ranger or Piñata) if you have them, a few favorite rubber stamps, STAZ-ON ink pads (black or other dark colors), gold ink pad, small bottle black acrylic paint, small doodads, small buttons, or other small embellishments, colored pencils or water soluble oil pastels (Portfolio brand or similar), glitter, ribbon or fibers, x-acto knife or small scissors, apron.

Optional Items for Students to bring: Liquid polymer clay (translucent liquid Sculpey or Kato liquid clay), paint brush to spread liquid clay, slicing blade, heat gun, Mod podge or matte medium, paintbrush to apply medium, Krylon markers, Prisma markers in favorite colors, Scribbles 3-D paint or similar.
